1920s Decatur Renovation Project

One of our favorite things to do at Level Craft Construction is to take a well-loved home and turn it into the stuff of dreams. Our most recent renovation project was of this charming four-bedroom, four-bath home in Decatur. In 2016, Level Craft Construction built a 2-car garage and accessory dwelling unit (ADU) for this client and was thrilled to work with them again.

Built in 1925, this sturdy home had a great structure but was not reflecting the type of home its owners desired. With 2,141 square feet of living space, this beautiful home is just 20 minutes from downtown Atlanta and is encompassed by a family-friendly community. The renovations begin on the home exterior, with visitors now greeted with a bright green door. This bold door and surrounding cool tones of the front porch tie in the dense greenery surrounding the walkway.

This is just the beginning of the use of rich, bold colors. When visitors arrive in the entryway, gorgeous blue paneling and fun wallpaper complete with an antique French light fixture greet them. The space is incredibly inviting and fun, giving the homeowners a perfect place to receive and entertain guests. A large window brings natural light into the space and highlights the deep, playful colors of the room.

From here, guests can walk into the kitchen and great room, complete with modern, stainless steel appliances, a breakfast bar and white upper cabinetry. Playing off the rich tones of the entryway, the kitchen ties in a darker shade of blue on the lower cabinets and accents of gold hardware and light fixtures. Our team installed Cambria Quartz countertops and backsplash with navy veining to, reflect an abundance of natural light afforded by the many windows and tie in the blue cabinetry. The space created is the perfect setting for family potlucks, socials and parties.

A favorite feature of this stunning renovation is the use of bold wallpaper throughout the home. The renovated powder bath features a modern yet classic look, using a pallet filled with blue and gold. Before, the bathroom was simple and ordinary. After our expert team came in, they turned the space into a floral paradise to accompany the gorgeous entryway. Astonishing wallpaper by British designer Juliet Travers plays with blue and gold, accentuating the theme of the home with color elements of cherry blossoms and squirrels.

Renovated in a tamer style, the owner’s suite reflects a clean and bright look to keep within the pallet of the home. The owner’s bath features a luxurious tiled shower and a spacious bath, featuring gold-colored hardware, fun green cabinetry and marble tile. The owner’s suite also features custom built double doors leading to the bathroom, as well as a custom wood built-in to provide additional storage beyond the walk-in closet. The fireplace is an original facet of the  house, and our team installed a new mantel and tile to give it a refreshing look.

While renovating the rest of the rooms in the home, our team gave each room character, mixing rich colors and muted tones, beautiful hardwood floors and natural light. The first additional bedroom features a deep blue accent wall and an accompanying bathroom with a shower tub and double vanity. A large window allows for plenty of natural light and a great view of the surrounding scenery.

In tandem with the second bedroom, the third bedroom has plenty of space, rich hardwood floors and a teal accent wall for a little flare. Accompanying white walls and a window fixture provide this room with a bright, natural appearance.

The third room apart from the owner’s suite favors softer tones in place of bright, rich colors.  This room features muted pink walls, a closet with double doors and an attached bathroom featuring a shower tub with luxurious white tile. The doors to this bedroom open out to the kitchen and great room, allowing for the perfect proximity to family and friends.

The home also features a rustic mudroom leading to the back porch and yard, providing the perfect spot for coats and outdoor necessities. Next to the first bathroom, there is also a convenient installation to hang keys, purses or wallets and a state-of-the-art Smart Technology thermostat located for easy access.

The screened-in back porch is the perfect place to spend summer nights and cool fall mornings enjoying the local scenery and spending time with loved ones. The protective screen allows the homeowners to relish the outdoors without the hindrance of pesky bugs and the elements.
